Making quick money on Medium is impossible.

I want to share my two-month experience to emphasize this point. 😔

Earlier, I joined Medium but didn’t subscribe to the paid membership and rarely used it, nor did I publish any articles on it. Then in January, I learned on a forum that it’s possible to earn money by joining the MPP membership and writing. It sounded a bit crazy. 😱

I’m a backend programmer and occasionally write blogs, but I had never considered making money through blogging before, and I’m still a novice in writing. 👨‍💻

At first, I started migrating my previous blog articles to Medium one by one, and then my nightmare began. 😫

Every day, I would obsess over my follower count, and monitor the number of reads, hoping for an increase in earnings, only to receive a few cents. 💸

From January to February, I published around 15 paid articles, but I only had about 40 followers and approximately 200 reads. 😞

On Medium, many people teach you how to gain a lot of followers in a week, reach 2,000 followers within two months, and earn $1,000. Their articles are all about quick ways to gain followers and build personal appeal, and so on. 📈

But does it really work? 🤔

I started obsessively following others, liking their posts, opening Medium a hundred times a day to see if anyone followed me. Sometimes I would gain a few followers and be ecstatic about it. Other times, when I saw my follower count decrease, I would feel really down. I’ve never done drugs, but it felt like I was addicted to it. It severely impacted my life and work. 😣

This is not the right approach. ❌

Medium is an excellent community where many people share their outstanding articles, like Vincent, who has been my mentor in learning the Go language. But for me, Medium has become a tool to seek attention, which it shouldn’t be. 😓

There are plenty of articles on Medium about writing, but they are definitely not like what I’m doing now — being overly concerned about follower count, disregarding everything for the sake of reads and followers. I’ve lost sight of what’s important. 🙃

Moving forward, I will do the following:

• I sincerely apologize to those I’ve followed in the past two weeks for my behavior of excessively seeking followers. I followed you not because I genuinely liked your articles, but because I hoped you would follow me back. 🙏
• I will take each article seriously and aim to captivate readers through my own work. ✍️
• I will reconnect with life and embrace it. Read more instead of thinking about writing an article a day and scamming a few follows🌞
• Medium is a great platform where your exceptional work can be monetarily rewarded, but don’t focus too much on gains and losses. As long as your work is well-written, there will naturally be people applauding for you. 👏
